I received my BA in psychology at Knox College and my PhD from the University of Maine in 1994. I'm a social psychologist, but I've also got interests in personality and in the history of psychology. My published research has been in the areas of right-wing authoritarianism, physique stereotypes, social rejection, and attitudes toward competition. I have been a long time advocate of the five-factor model of personality, and that has been a running theme in much of my research. Because I am an avid player of Euro games and chess, I have also become interested in the psychology of games. I believe that a game is not only interesting in its own terms, it can serve as a simulation or microcosm of real life social interaction. If you are interested in this topic, be sure to check out my blog at, The Psychology of Board Games.

Mostly, I am a teacher. I have taught psychology at Southwest Minnesota State University for over 20 years, and have also done short stints at the University of Maine, St. Catherine University, and Oregon State University. My favorite class is General Psychology because I love introducing new students to the field.
